Seminars

The leadership team host three-day seminars that offer opportunities for participants to think in  new ways about possible support raising solutions.

Many exercises focus on dispelling feelings of shame  arising from an inability to raise  financial supporters, despite working on traditional support raising methods.

Much of the seminar is based on case studies where Africans tell their stories of faith, experience and finding new sources of income looking at resources that are on hand.  New strategies are discussed and participants become part of an international cohort that keeps sharing ideas and strategies.

This seminar is not a fundraising seminar but rather a resourcing journey that looks at many case studies (stories) of ministries and individuals who are doing it. They provide networks and connections for material such as the Smart Boxes, Bread Ovens and other initiatives that improve sustainability.

Bread Ovens

Sustainable Missions connects ministries and schools with innovative Bread Ovens designed for efficiency and impact. Each oven has the capacity to bake up to 15 loaves at a time using minimal fuel—just small twigs and branches—making it both economical and environmentally friendly. A key advantage of these ovens is their portability and ease of setup. They can be transported on palets and constructed on-site using basic tools and unskilled labor, making them ideal for rural or underserved locations.

These ovens have become powerful tools for transformation. Ministries and schools have developed training programs and curricula that teach students and staff how to bake bread—equipping them with valuable life skills. The bread can be used to feed learners who arrive at school hungry or sold as a sustainable source of income, creating jobs and supporting local communities.

This initiative not only meets practical needs but also empowers people with dignity and opportunity through simple, scalable solutions.

Smart Boxes

Smartboxes are a powerful, portable education hub designed to bring quality learning to even the most remote and underserved areas of the Global South. Each SmartBox contains 20 rugged Chromebooks, pre-loaded with a comprehensive digital library that covers the full spectrum of education—from early childhood (K) right through to university level.

Designed for flexibility and durability, the SmartBox can be easily transported and set up anywhere—under a tree, in a community center, or in rural classrooms with no internet or electricity. It’s a complete, offline “School in a Box,” enabling teachers and students to access world-class curriculum and resources in multiple African languages and global academic standards.

Sustainable Missions works closely with the developers of  SmartBoxes.  Several Sustainable Missions projects have already received SmartBoxes. Beacon Hope (Ghana), Mberenga Christian School (Zimbabwe),  Burundi Dream Academy (Burundi).
